A Conversation with Medea Benjamin

Bad For Children & Other Living Things

Back in the 1960s, at the height of the Vietnam War, American artist Lorraine Schneider created a poster for a group called Another Mother For Peace. Intertwined in the leaves and petals of a black sunflower, against an electric yellow background, these famous words were written in black: “War is not healthy for children and other living things.”

War, of course, isn’t healthy for Earth’s climate system either.

The connections between America’s permanent war economy, its military-industrial complex and climate system breakdown are the subject of a campaign by US-antiwar group CODEPINK.

The GPM spoke about the connections between global militarism and Earth’s rising climate crisis with CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin.
